Bliss is the author of the collection of stories, My Father, Dancing (Knopf, 1999) which was a New York Times notable book of the year, and One Drop:  My Father’s Hidden LifeA Story of Race and Family Secrets (Little Brown, 2007), which was named a best book of the year by the Chicago Tribune, chosen as the Humanist Book of the Year by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, and was a finalist for numerous prizes, including Books for a Better Life and the Essence literary awards.  Her fiction and essays have been anthologized in Best American Short Stories, The Pushcart Prize Anthology and the Art of the Essay, and have appeared in Grand Street, Ploughshares, “O” Magazine, and Cookie.  She is a frequent contributor to Elle magazine and the New York Times Book Review.
